CONTACTS

improvisation ensemble

the ensemble:
Babele is a improvisation project that aims at deepening the interactions between sound and movement, between the creation of a storyboard and the innumerable variations present every second.
Born from an idea of Elisa Barucchieri and musician Davide Penta, Babele is enriched by the collaboration of musicians, dancers, actors open to the project.
The aim of Babele is to allow the dynamics of one to melt into the dynamics of the whole, to create a deep dialogue among the parts, for the creation of an ever new language.
In Babele silente and sound have the same specific weight of white and black, of pauses and sudden dynamics, and any object may become the monad from which the whole is born. The capacity for instant creation-elaboration-metabolization leads Babele to be a unique instrument for a creative and comunicative catharsis, with all the risks and resources all research practices entail.

the performance:
Being based on radical improvisation, every performance of Babele is unique and unrepeatable.
Picking up on elements of performance improvisation as well as on the aesthetics of free-jazz and research music, the performances of Babele develop in a continuum of movement, images evoked and acustic ambiances in which the plasticity of dance, the power of word and the energy of music mix and separate simultaneously. In this continual stream of consciousness, the performers play their roles accepting risks and strengths, charms and defects, inversions and chiaroscuro, in a highly energetic development.
The spectator can just let go, and be transported by what may by defined as a modern archetypal representation of what surrounds us all.

the group:
At the moment Babele is compsed of five dancers and three musicians:
Elisa Barucchieri, Victoria Sogn, Myriam Clericuzio, Gianna Grimaldi, Lidia Serini, and Davide Penta, bass e and acustic objects, Mirko Signorile, piano, and Pippo “Ark” D’Ambrosio, percussions.
The presence of guest musicians, dancers or actors is always an open possibilità.

location:
Babele can re-create itself in almost any location, adapting form and content.
In the case of open air performances, adequate amplification conditions are necessary.
Babele may also be taken into very small spaces, and not necessarily only in theatrical spaces. Urban spaces, train stations, airports, metro stops, beaches, etc, may all be considered adequate spaces.
