Dos Pezes is a playful piece on the theme of tango, through the music of Astor Piazzolla.
It is more the vision of a quality than of a set type of steps, more the evocation of a very distinct world and character than continuation of the tradition. The interaction with the music, be it performed live or from the recorded base, and the use of video take the dance into a distinct flavor and atmosphere, into the world of two women, abstract, yet personal in their stories and interactions.

The dance is modern, like the music. And like the music, it is a game on energy qualities, forms and interactions, where the characteristics of traditional tango are kept, respected, and yet completely renewed.

Astor Piazzolla revisited the stylistic and compositional characteristics of tango, taking the music into the realm of jazz, and elevating it to a higher and more complex level. Thus, he created a distinct separation from the traditional dance and music, confirmed by the fact that he never allowed traditional dancers to use his music, permission which instead he often granted to modern dance choreographers and companies.
Piazzolla’s rythms play on the furthermost borders of tango, and so happens in the dance, where, among set steps and improvisation, the challenge is to find a balance between precise tradition and invention, between strong characteristics and new steps.
Dos Pezes was created in collaboration with the musical group Tango Pez. After its firsts presentation in December 2003, it was nominated second best performance of the year in the city of Kongsberg, Norway.
